At what point in the product development process should you really focus on packaging? Also does your target retailer effect how you should think about packaging your product?

Hello Sally,

Good question. I believe the timing for packaging will depend on if there is a need for custom or just standard packaging. Custom packaging can easily take a month to put together. Depending on the marketing strategy, you might want to start with standard packaging such as a clamshell, box, blister pack, or clear bag with a hanger.

As a guide, visit retail stores and see how comparable products are packaged and displayed.
